Quick answer: Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) has four terminals along one curb. Arrivals and baggage claim are on the lower level, and pre-arranged cars pick up from marked lower-level curb areas. Airline terminal assignments change, so check your airline or the airport flight tracker, then give your driver the airline, terminal and flight number. See our Fort Lauderdale airport page.

FLL is run by the Broward County Aviation Department and sits at 100 Terminal Drive, Fort Lauderdale, about 3 miles from downtown. Four terminals confuse first-time visitors, especially when a flight lands at a different terminal than the ticket says.

This guide covers which airlines tend to use which terminal, how the terminals connect, where baggage claim and the curbside pickup areas are, and what to tell a driver who is meeting you.

The four Fort Lauderdale airport terminals at a glance

Terminals 1, 2, 3 and 4 are numbered from the west end of the airport to the east end. Each terminal has its own arrivals level, baggage claim and curbside. Airlines move between terminals as gates are rebuilt and carriers come and go, so treat the table below as a starting point, not a promise.

TerminalAirlines commonly listed thereGood to know
Terminal 1Southwest, United, Frontier, Alaska, AllegiantWest end of the airport. Next to the Rental Car Center. Customs and Border Protection is located here for international arrivals.
Terminal 2Delta, Air Canada, WestJetCentral. Taxi dispatch podium at the east end of the terminal.
Terminal 3JetBlue, American, AveloCentral. Linked to Terminal 4 by a connector bridge past security.
Terminal 4Mostly international and charter carriersEast end of the airport. Customs and Border Protection is located here as well.

Terminal 4 lists change often and travel guides disagree, so we do not name its airlines. The airport flight tracker shows the terminal for a specific flight and is the safest check.

How the terminals connect

Terminals 3 and 4 are joined by a pedestrian bridge. Past security, you can walk between them. Arriving international passengers still clear customs first.

For the other terminals, connections depend on whether you are inside or outside security, and guides describe them differently. The simple rule: if you need to move between terminals after you have landed, plan to walk outside along the lower level or take the airport shuttle bus. Do not count on a secure connection.

Travel guides report airport shuttle buses from the lower level outside each terminal, and the airport lists a Rental Car Center shuttle running every 10 minutes around the clock. Check the airport website for current hours.

Arrivals and baggage claim

At FLL, arrivals and baggage claim are on the lower level of each terminal. Screens above the carousels show your belt. Departures are on the upper level.

International arrivals clear immigration and customs in Terminals 1 and 4. Allow extra time in the evening, when several flights from the Caribbean and Latin America often land together.

Each terminal has a Ground Transportation booth in the baggage claim area for questions about taxis, shuttles and pre-arranged cars. Baggage storage is offered in every terminal. The airport and carriers do not provide child safety seats, so bring your own.

Where each kind of pickup happens

The airport sorts ground transportation into different zones. Knowing which one applies to you saves a lot of walking.

The airport also notes that two off-airport shuttle stops have been closed until further notice, so hotel and parking shuttle riders may be sent to a different stop than before. Check the airport page the week you travel.

How a pre-booked driver pickup generally works

When you book a private car in advance, the pickup details differ by company, so ask yours how it works before you fly. With ART, ask how your pickup will be handled and tell us your flight number when you book.

What works for any pre-arranged pickup: land, turn off airplane mode and check for a message from your driver. Collect bags at your carousel. Then go to the lower-level pre-arranged pickup area for your terminal, or wait where the driver told you.

If you are unsure, stay near baggage claim and ask the Ground Transportation booth. Wandering between terminals with luggage is the most common way pickups go wrong.

  • Do not wait on the upper departures level.
  • If your flight is delayed or diverts, tell the company as soon as you know.

What to tell your driver

Send these four details when you book, and again by message on the day of travel if anything changes:

  • Airline name and flight number, such as the carrier and a four-digit number.
  • Terminal, if you know it, and whether you are on an international flight that needs customs.
  • Number of passengers and checked bags, plus any car seats or large items.
  • A mobile number that works in the United States, or the roaming plan you will use.

If your plans change in the air, message your driver as soon as you have signal. The airline app often shows the terminal and baggage belt before you reach the gate.

Terminal-to-terminal tips

Most travelers never switch terminals, but cruise days and flight changes can force it. If your car or hotel shuttle is at another terminal, use the lower-level shuttle bus or walk outside, and allow extra time with children or bags. Afternoon storms in the warmer months make the shuttle easier.

On departure, check your outbound terminal before leaving the hotel. Airlines may close bag check as early as 2 hours before departure during peak cruise periods. Confirm with your airline.

When a private car is the easier choice

Taxis and rideshare apps work well for one or two people with light bags. A private car is simpler for groups, families with child seats, travelers with a lot of luggage, and early or late flights when you want a ride arranged ahead of time.

Frequently asked questions

How many terminals does Fort Lauderdale airport have?

FLL has four terminals, numbered 1 to 4. Each has its own arrivals level, baggage claim and curbside. Terminals 3 and 4 are linked by a connector bridge past security. Check your airline for the terminal that applies to your flight.

Which airline uses which terminal at FLL?

Airlines commonly listed are Southwest, United, Frontier, Alaska and Allegiant in Terminal 1, Delta in Terminal 2, and JetBlue, American and Avelo in Terminal 3. Terminal 4 hosts mostly international and charter carriers. Assignments change, so confirm with your airline or the airport flight tracker.

Where is baggage claim at Fort Lauderdale airport?

Baggage claim is on the lower level of each terminal. Screens above the carousels show which belt is yours. A Ground Transportation booth in the baggage claim area can answer questions about your ride.

Where do pre-booked drivers pick up at FLL?

Pre-arranged limousines, sedans and vans use designated lower-level curbside areas. Follow the ground transportation signs, or ask at the booth in baggage claim. Your driver may give you a specific spot, so follow those directions first.

Where do I wait for my driver?

Wait where your driver or company told you. If you have no instructions, stay near baggage claim on the lower level and message the driver. Do not wait on the upper departures level, which is meant for departures.

Can I walk between terminals at FLL?

Terminals 3 and 4 connect past security by a bridge. For other moves, plan to go outside along the lower level or use the airport shuttle bus. Allow extra time with luggage, and check the airport page for the current setup.

What should I tell my driver before I land?

Give the airline, flight number, terminal if known, number of passengers and bags, and a working mobile number. Tell your driver right away if the flight is delayed or you land at a different terminal. Ask ART how pickups are handled when you book.

Does ART track my flight?

Please ask ART how flight monitoring and pickups are handled when you book. Always give us your flight number when you reserve, and call (728) 777-3721 if your plans change on the day.

Where do I get a taxi at FLL?

Taxi dispatch podiums are at each terminal: the west end of Terminal 1, the east end of Terminal 2, the north end of Terminal 3 and the west end of Terminal 4. Fares are regulated, and the airport posts estimates.

Where are the rideshare pickup zones?

At Terminals 1 and 2, the airport directs riders to turn left after leaving the terminal. At Terminals 3 and 4, riders use the first floor of the southern Palm Garage, zones A to D. The airport has changed these before, so check the app and airport page.

Do I need a child seat for an airport transfer?

The airport, airlines and ground transportation companies do not provide child safety seats at FLL, so bring your own or arrange one in advance. ART offers child seats for $20 per seat per transfer. Ask when you book.

Which terminal is closest to the cruise port?

All terminals are a short ride from Port Everglades, which the airport describes as about 10 minutes away. Cruise line transportation, if pre-booked, can meet you at baggage claim. For a private ride, see our Port Everglades page.
