Quick answer: How much does a party bus cost? There is no single number, because the price is built from several parts: the bus size, the hourly rate, the minimum hours, the date, and add-ons like fuel, tolls, cleaning and gratuity. Ask for an all-in quote, then divide it by paying guests to see your real cost per person.

A party bus quote is easy to misread. One company lists a low hourly rate and adds fees later. Another gives one bigger number that already includes them. Comparing the two takes more than looking at the hourly figure.
This guide covers what sets the price of a party bus rental in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, what to expect from deposits and rules, and how to split the cost fairly. It gives factors, not market price ranges, because rates swing with the bus, the date and the company.
The parts of a party bus price
Most party bus rentals are priced by the hour. The company picks a rate for the vehicle, multiplies it by your hours, and then adds the items that are not part of the rate. Your total is the base plus those items.
The base rate depends mainly on capacity. A bus built for 12 people is a different vehicle from one built for 30 or more, and larger buses cost more per hour. Features like lighting, sound and seating layout can also change the rate. Always ask which exact bus the quote covers, and how many seated passengers it holds.
| Cost part | What it is | Typical handling |
|---|---|---|
| Hourly rate | Charge per hour for the bus and driver | Set by bus size and features |
| Minimum hours | Least time you must pay for | Often longer on weekends and event days |
| Deposit | Payment that holds your date | Amount and refund terms vary by company |
| Fuel, tolls, parking | Costs of operating the route | Included by some, added by others |
| Cleaning or damage deposit | Protection against mess or damage | Charged by some companies, often refundable |
| Gratuity | Tip for the driver | Included, added automatically or left to you |
| Overtime | Time past your booked end | Usually billed per extra hour or part hour |
| Extra stops | Added pickups or venues | May change the route, the time or the price |

Minimum hours and when they rise
Minimum hours are the biggest reason a short ride costs more than expected. If a company sets a four-hour minimum, a two-hour trip is still priced at four. Industry pricing guides note that minimums are commonly longer on weekends, and that Saturday night is the most in-demand slot. Ask for the minimum on your exact date, not a general minimum.
Use the minimum as a planning tool. If you must pay for four hours anyway, you can add a dinner stop or a longer route without a higher base cost. If your event is short, a weekday date or a smaller vehicle may carry a lower minimum.
Dates, seasons and event weekends in South Florida
Demand drives price. Prom season in spring, graduation weeks, holiday weekends and New Year’s Eve are busy for every group transportation company. In South Florida, large event weekends in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach can fill vehicles early. Dates change each season, so check the calendar for your weekend.
Cruise departures from PortMiami and Port Everglades add pressure on weekends, and bachelorette and birthday groups often book Friday and Saturday nights. A Thursday evening or a Sunday afternoon can be easier to book and can have a different minimum. If your plan is flexible, ask what a different day would change.
Book early for peak dates. Large buses are limited, and good dates go first. ART arranges larger vehicles such as Sprinters, mini buses and coaches, so give as much notice as you can. See the party bus rental page for how group requests work.

Deposits, damage deposits and cancellation
Almost every company asks for a deposit to hold the vehicle. Some take a percentage. Others take the full amount at booking. Ask when the balance is due and whether the deposit is refundable.
Some companies also collect a cleaning or damage deposit, or charge a cleaning fee if the bus is left in poor condition. Ask what counts as a cleaning issue, such as spilled drinks, confetti or glitter, and whether the deposit is returned after the trip.
Get the cancellation window and the rule for date changes in writing. A rain forecast, a venue change or a smaller headcount can change plans, and the terms decide what you lose.
Alcohol, BYOB and house rules
Many people book a party bus for a night out, so the alcohol rule matters. Florida’s open container law, section 316.1936, prohibits open containers and drinking for passengers in a vehicle on the road. The law also lists exemptions, including for a passenger of a vehicle driven under a contract to provide passenger transportation by a driver holding a commercial license with a passenger endorsement.
Do not rely on that exemption to decide for yourself. Whether alcohol is allowed on a given bus is the operator’s policy, and rules vary by company. Some allow guests to bring their own, some forbid it and some require a minimum age or an adult host. Ask in writing, and ask about glass, kegs, smoking and decorations. This is general information, not legal advice. Florida’s legal drinking age is 21.
Breaking a house rule can cost you the cleaning deposit or end the trip. Brief your group before pickup.
How to split the cost per person
Splitting evenly sounds easy, but people forget the extras. Build your total first, then divide. Use this formula.
| Step | Formula | Example only (made-up numbers) |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Base rate | Hourly rate x billed hours | $300 x 5 hours = $1,500 |
| 2. Fees | Fuel, tolls, parking, cleaning | $150 |
| 3. Gratuity | Percent of base if not included | 20% of $1,500 = $300 |
| 4. Total | Base + fees + gratuity | $1,500 + $150 + $300 = $1,950 |
| 5. Per person | Total / paying guests | $1,950 / 15 = $130 |
These figures are an example only. They are not a price from ART or any company. Swap in your own quote.
Collect money before the date, not on the night. Add a small cushion for a guest who drops out. Decide whether the birthday guest or the bride pays, and say so up front.
Questions to ask before you book
Send these to every company you compare.
- How many seated passengers does this exact bus hold?
- What is the hourly rate and the minimum for my date?
- Is the quote all-in, or are fuel, tolls and fees extra?
- How much is the deposit, and when is the balance due?
- Is there a cleaning or damage deposit, and when is it returned?
- Is gratuity included, added or left to us?
- What is the overtime rate if we run late?
- How are extra stops and route changes handled?
- What is your alcohol and BYOB policy, and what is the age rule?
- What is the cancellation window and what is refundable?
If your group is smaller, a group transportation option or an SUV may cost less per person. For weddings and big occasions, see event transportation.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a party bus cost?
The total depends on bus size, hourly rate, minimum hours, date and add-ons like fuel, tolls, cleaning and gratuity. Rather than chase a headline number, ask for an all-in quote for your date and divide it by your paying guests to see the real cost per person.
Is a party bus priced by the hour?
Usually yes. The company sets an hourly rate for the vehicle and driver and multiplies it by your hours, with a minimum. Some also offer flat rates for set routes. Ask which model your quote uses and what the minimum is on your date.
Why do party buses have minimum hours?
A bus and driver are committed for your whole booking, so companies set a minimum to cover that time. Minimums are commonly longer on weekends and busy event days. Ask for the minimum on your exact date and plan stops to use all the time you pay for.
Does a party bus cost more on weekends?
Often. Friday and Saturday nights are in highest demand, and many companies use longer minimums or higher rates then. A weekday or Sunday booking can be easier to find and can carry different terms. Ask what a different day would change.
Do I need to pay a deposit for a party bus?
Most companies require one to hold the vehicle. The amount and refund rules vary. Ask how much is due now, when the balance is due, what happens if you cancel and whether any part is a separate cleaning or damage deposit.
Is gratuity included in a party bus quote?
It depends on the company. Some include it, some add it automatically and some leave it to you. Ask before you book so you can budget correctly. A common tipping range is 15 to 20 percent of the base, but follow what your quote says.
Can we drink alcohol on a party bus in Florida?
Florida’s open container law restricts drinking in vehicles and lists some exemptions for contracted passenger transport. Whether alcohol is allowed on a specific bus is up to the operator and varies by company. Ask in writing before you plan. This is not legal advice.
What fees are not in the hourly rate?
It varies by company. Common add-ons are fuel, tolls, parking, cleaning, overtime and gratuity. Some companies include several of these in the rate. Ask for an itemized quote so you can compare companies on the same terms.
What happens if we run past our booked time?
Overtime is usually billed per extra hour or part of an hour, if the bus is available. Ask for the overtime rate before you book. Build a time cushion into your plan, because stops and traffic often run longer than expected.
How do we split the cost of a party bus?
Add the base cost, fees and gratuity to get a total, then divide by the number of paying guests. Collect payment before the date and add a small cushion for dropouts. The formula table in this guide shows the steps with example numbers.
When should we book a party bus?
As early as you can, especially for prom season, holiday weekends, New Year’s Eve and event weekends. Large vehicles are limited. ART arranges larger vehicles, so early notice helps. Call (728) 777-3721 with your date and group size.
What size bus do we need?
Count your guests, then ask for the seated capacity of the exact bus, not the standing figure. For smaller groups, an SUV or Premium SUV seats up to 6 passengers. For larger groups, ask ART about Sprinters, mini coaches and motor coaches.
